Description
Cannons are inherently inaccurate. By experimenting with grooving the barrel Carronades were far more accurate than a long cannon but at the cost of lessening the range. The screwed sight, the stronger breech & gun carriage running on a track, made the French carronade more efficient. The gun was placed into the first & second rate vessels like La Toulonnaise, La Belle Poule and the Valmy.
